Paleo Goes Mainstream: What’s in the Paleo Diet?

CBS has been airing more segments about the Paleo diet and lifestyle. Dr. Kim Mulvihill has done a fantastic job at explaining the Ancestral Health Movement, in fact she’s made it so simple even a caveman could understand it, ha ha ha. Here are the latest videos (note: I’m having problems with the embed code, I’ll be doing separate posts for each video). I especially like the last one about saturated fat, even though she got it slightly wrong. There are tons of resources on the CBS website, including sample Paleo diets and direct links to research. It’s nice to see a news agency trying to actually educate the public instead of deceiving them for once.

What’s In The Paleo Diet?

Paleo Goes Mainstream: What’s in the Paleo Diet? — 2 Comments

  1. I’ve been on the paleo diet for about a month now with a combination of high intensity training excersize. I’ve lost 15 lbs so far. However, every 7th day, I go out for dinner and eat whatever I want as a reward for keeping track on diet. Will the 1 day that I leave out affect me in a bad way in the future?

    • Quick answer: more than likely.
It depends on what you’re eating. If you eat grains, for example, it may cause gut irritation that takes upwards of 3-4 days to calm down. If you’re eating it every 7 days then you will have constant irritation, which opens your system up to further attack from other food proteins. Being on a Paleo diet isn’t about having “cheat days.” It is about changing your lifestyle completely, choosing quality over quantity and realizing the food-health connection. When you fully know how each food group affects YOUR body, you will find that you can eat some of the foods that are generally on the no-list. You’re not there yet but with a little perseverance, you will be. In the meantime, at least keep your cheat meals gluten free.
